Meeting schedules
AffirmationDC meets on the fourth Sunday of each month, generally skipping the months of June and December. During the summer months we may plan special events, and hold other activities throughout the year in addition to the chapter meetings. Regular meetings are held in members' homes.
In the month of June, AffirmationDC usually participates in the Capital Pride festivities and celebrations. We often have a Thanksgiving dinner in November, and a holiday party in December, and occasionally hold a Family Home Evening.
What can you expect at a chapter meeting?
Most of us were pretty nervous before attending our first Affirmation meeting, not knowing what was going to happen or who was going to be there or what it would be like. It can be intimidating to walk into your first official meeting as a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, or intersexed Mormon. We were all there once too.
Our meetings are fairly laidback and we're a pretty friendly group of people. We think you'll find that a typical meeting is far more ordinary than you may be expecting. Sometimes our meetings are purely social and we may watch a movie relating to Mormonism or with GLBTI themes. Other times we have guest speakers about a particular relevant topic, with plenty of time for questions and answers and casual discussion. Sometimes we'll have our own little discussion group about a specific current event or something of interest to the chapter members.
We often have refreshments of some kind, and when the meeting is over those who wish to do so typically go out to eat at a nearby restaurant.
Please join us, and check out the calendar page for what's around the corner.
